Opening a basic share (savings) account is all that is required in order establish yourself as a member and owner of the Worcester Fire Department Credit Union. Your share account is an interest bearing account, provides for a monthly statement either electronically or by mail, has no monthly fees associated with it and can be opened as an individual or joint account.
All funds deposited with the Worcester Fire Department Credit Union are fully insured. Deposits are insured by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), the federal agency that administers the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund (NCUSIF). The NCUSIF, like the FDIC’s Deposit Insurance Fund, is a federal insurance fund backed by the full faith and credit of the U.S. Government. The amount of free insurance coverage on your funds is currently set at $250,000. The Worcester Fire Department Credit Union is also a member of the Massachusetts Credit Union Share Insurance Corporation (MSIC). As a member of the MSIC, all excess shares and deposits are fully insured above the NCUA federal limit of $250,000.
